It has been rightly called the essence of all the Vedas and Upanishads.

The present extract consists of seven verses chosen from the great book. They explain respectively -

(1) immortality of the soul,

(2) the inevitability of birth and death,

(3) the nature of KARMAYOG,

(4) the importance of spiritual knowledge,

(5) the types of devotees,

(6) what kind of devotee is dear to god and

(7) the nature of SATVIKI BIDDHUI (the faultless intellect that leads one to God.)

These seven drops of the elixir of the philosophy of life will hopefully stir your curiosity to explore the original treatise SHREE MADBHAGAVADGEETA. No other work of philosophy has such a poetic title - The song celestial.

Explain this Shlokas

(1) KARMANYEVADHIKARASTE ........ |

Ans. In this verse lord SHREE KRISHNA says,, "You have a right to work (but) no right to demand its results or fruit. Do not work with the expectation of the result. At the same time do not be lazy."

Man cannot live without doing something or the other. A sort of inner compulsion makes him do something or act. Very often he is prompted to undertake an activity with a view to attaining some result. but when and if the expected result does not follow, he is disappointed or unhappy. so lord says. "do not work to get the fruit." why? you should apply your mind exclusively to work that you have started. when you think of what you will get out of it. a part of your mind gets distracted. some energy is wasted in thinking about the result or fruit over which you have no control. Better to concentrate on the work at hand and not to waste mental energy in thinking about its result. this verse is perhaps the most famous and oft-quoted one because it contains the secret of KARMA YOGA.

 (2) SHRADDHAVAN LABHATE ....... |

Ans. In order to get knowledge, one should have faith. secondly, one should be exclusively devoted to knowledge. Our sense organs distract us, drive us in many directions. one who desires to get knowledge should control his senses. The first line tells us the qualifications required for attaining the knowledge while the second line tells us the effect of attaining knowledge. one gets the highest kind of peace as soon as knowledge is attained. lord Krishna is speaking about knowledge of God or the realization of God. In other words, this verse is describing the evolution of a devotee from the stage of being JIGYASU to the final one of being GYANI. Controlling the outward flow of mind a devotee dedicates himself to the sole purpose of attaining realization of God, having unwavering faith. When he becomes a GYANI he is rewarded with eternal peace.
